Omaha Federal Credit Union (OFCU) opened for business in downtown Omaha April 1, 1935 as the Omaha U.S. Employees Federal Credit Union, becoming one of the country’s early charter members. We started with only 60 members and $800 in shares. In April 1975, we changed our name to Omaha Federal Credit Union, which remains today.
In January 1990, we merged with Blair Community Federal Credit Union, and in December 2001, merged with Omaha World-Herald Federal Credit Union.
On Jan 2, 2025, we announced the official merger of Heartland Area Federal Credit Union into Omaha Federal Credit Union. Together, we serve more than 8,500 members across the country, and exceed more than $115 million in assets.
Today, OFCU serves Douglas, Sarpy and Washington counties in NE, and Pottawattamie and Harrison counties in IA. On April 1, OFCU will officially celebrate 90 successful years in business.
OFCU takes pride in developing and maintaining personalized relationships. Our passion lies in guiding members through life’s milestones such as buying a home and auto and saving for financial goals. OFCU distinguishes itself by providing key financial support to members – particularly when larger financial institutions may fall short – by providing lower interest rates on loans and higher yields on deposits.
OFCU is a leader in introducing the latest products, services and technology, ensuring members have local, uninterrupted access to cutting-edge financial solutions.
OFCU’s mission centers around building meaningful life-long connections with our member-owners, championing financial wellness, offering a “people helping people” responsive approach, becoming involved in the communities where we serve and always putting security and integrity of members’ financial assets first.
Stay tuned all year-long as we celebrate this major anniversary milestone in OFCU’s long and proud history of people helping people.
